An Gaisce

The President’s Award or, An Gaisce, is a programme that was set up to encourage young people to set out personal challenges and ways to achieve them. Individuals take on these challenges under the areas of learning a personal skill, involvement in community , taking on a form of physical recreation or completing an adventure trip. These sections are all supervised by a PAL (President’s Awards Leader). An Gaisce is the country’s most prestigious and respected individual reward programme.

There are three different types of award that you can earn – bronze, silver and gold. Bronze is earned over a period of approximately six months; silver is a little more interesting at 12 months and if you’re up to the challenge the gold award is earned over approximately 18 months.
