The Leaving Cert 10-11 class had an early start on the morning of 15th September . The Train left Castlebar station at 5.25 am with a bright and breezy crew on board on route to the Career Directions Exhibition in RDS Dublin. Alarm about Ms Lennon's failure to appear was allayed when she materialised at Claremorris.
Groups of students took taxis from Houston Station to the RDS and experienced Dublin's hyper opinionated Dustin style taxi drivers at first hand.
The Conference /Exhibition concerns entry procedures to third level colleges in Ireland and the UK. Unfortunately the recent decision of the UK Government to triple fees for UK Colleges in the meantime has made studying in England and Wales less attractive but Scotland continues with its 'Free Fees' policy.

Now in its twenty fourth year, the conference has become the definitive and centralised forum for third level choices for Irish students and an annual trip to Dublin for Davitt College Leaving Certs. It also has the official sanction of the Irish Department of Education & Science.
Lecture sessions covered topics such as the options on offer in Irish and UK third level education, the CAO and UCAS admissions systems, alternative routes to third level through FETAC and how to choose a career and how to cope with college life.

Talks covered careers in art and design, information technology, engineering, the law, business and finance, beauty therapy and fashion, social services, journalism and communications and the hospitality industry.
Students from Davitt College also attended GMIT Open Day, Sligo IT Open Day and the Careers NUIG Open Night at the Harlequin Hotel on 25 th November.
Fifth years also visited a career exhibition in Galway.
A fellow passenger from Ballyhaunis, Majella Moore, who meet Davitt College on the train commented on their laid back good manners and relaxed respect for their teachers.
A student who is repeating the Leaving in Davitt College said " Its cool compared to my last school-students are trusted and that makes things a lot more pleasant"
It's the way to go.
