Davitt College Selected for Government’s 100mbs Broadband Pilot Project
Davitt College is delighted to be selected one of the 78 post-primary schools in the country to get 100 megabits of broadband connectivity.
Launching this project Minister Eamon Ryan TD, Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources said, “We must equip our students with the skills and creativity they need to thrive in the new digital world we are entering. Today’s announcement opens a door to them, to take part in Ireland’s digital future.”
The speeds available are similar to those that are being offered to high-end national and multinational companies that operate in Ireland. They allow for the quick upload and download of material, instant connection to websites, and the increased and varied use of online applications. This program will provide world class infrastructure to enable our teachers and students access and exploit media rich online digital content.
Welcoming this news Mark Jordan, ICT coordinator said, “Davitt College is well placed to take full advantage of this major resource, to enrich and enhance its teaching and learning across all subjects on the post-primary curricula. This achievement ensures that Davitt College will continue to have ICT central to effective education underpinning its commitment for continued development and excellence in ICT. This technology is an inherent tool for the future of Ireland’s Smart Economy and essential for our economic renewal.”
Organisations like Intel, IBEC, FAS & the ESRI have all published reports highlighting the importance of investment in ICT in education in order to drive economic development and help hasten Ireland’s financial recovery.
