Geography Field Trip
The geography field trip at senior level is always a very enjoyable and rewarding experience for the students who take part in it. In Davitt College this involves a detailed study of a river from its source to point of discharge. The pictures show the students of the 2010 class carrying out the investigation. Every member of the group takes the required measurements using the equipment supplied and records the measurements on the data sheets. The objective is to calculate the rate of erosion of the river channel at 3 different locations along its course. In 2010 we carried out this investigation in county Fermanagh. The benefits for the students are that they get a hands on experience in carrying out fieldwork work with the aid of qualified instructors, and more importantly this experience can be worth as much as 20% to students in their final exam.
