Information Technology & Transition Year

As part of our Transition Year Syllabus, Davitt College now provides our students the opportunity to sit the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL), the world’s most successful IT skills certification programme. The ECDL establishes a standard for everyone who uses a computer in either a professional or personal capacity. It is a certificate that verifies competence in computer use, making the holder readily mobile within Ireland and internationally. Employers and job seekers all agree on the importance of this standard definition of practical competence in Information Technology.
An ECDL certificate entitles a student to 2 Credits at Fectac level 4 or 1 credit at level 5 on National Framework of Qualifications -

In order to achieve the ECDL certification, individuals must pass a test for each of the 7 modules

  • Concepts of Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Using the Computer and Managing Files
  • Word Processing
  • Spreadsheets
  • Databases
  • Presentation
  • Web browsing and Communication

In Davitt College students are provided with tuition on each of these topics and tests are taken online using the newly introduced ECDL (ICS) Skills Automated Testing System
