Journalism Awards

Davitt College has yet another reason to be proud of its students, this time for emulating their creative and linguistic talents within the multi-faceted world of journalism, at the recent John Healy Festival in the Arts Centre in Charlestown.
In front of a packed house of journalists, politicians, newspaper staff all with an eye for good journalism, two students from Davitt College, were presented with The John Healy Journalism Awards, for their outstanding newspaper reports which were published in The Western People that week.
Siobhán ia Leaving Certificate student wrote an extremely interesting article entitled "Michael Davitt - Mayo's greatest," in the style of John Healy, one of Ireland's greatest journalists. Both students are now hoping to pursue careers in journalism.
Niamh a first year at Davitt College and is clearly a budding writer with a photographic eye for detail as portrayed in her beautifully descriptive article entitled "Musical Wedding Sensation" which vividly described the recent wedding of her cousin on Achill Island.
