Partnership in Davitt College
Partnership is the cornerstone of the relationship between Students, their Parents and Teachers in Davitt College. The students first days are induction days where the young people are introduced to staff and familiarised with their new surroundings. Parents are welcomed into the school to give moral support to their child if necessary as it can be a daunting adventure for many youngsters coming from the cosiness of a relatively small primary school where one teacher provided all the supports for the day. We realise that the bustle of a large second level school with a 35 minute turnover of teachers takes getting used to and every effort is made to smooth the way for the new students and their parents.
In the first month of the school year, we hold a "partnership night" when 1st. Years and their parents visit the school, meet with teachers and discuss any little issues that may have arisen in the early weeks of their second level education as well as more important issues such as time tables and subject choices.
For the remainder of the student's time in Davitt College, ongoing contact is maintained with parents through the year-heads and tutors and the Home School Liaison teacher. This contact is not limited to discipline issues; rather the objective is to smooth the sometimes tricky path for students and parents during those formative years. Parents are encouraged and invited to come to the school and discuss, in total confidence, any issue, whether educational or otherwise, which might cause concern to student or parent.
The primary concern of every parent is the welfare of their child. Davitt College works in Partnership with parents and students to keep concerns to a minimum.
